Police Dispensary was established during the year 1961 and it was operated initially by the staff of civil hospital (GB Pant Hospital, Port Blair). In the first instance 6 Police Constables were trained in the compounder course at GB Pant Hospital during the year 1973. 18 posts of HC (Compounders) were created by the Govt. during the year 1989. At present there are 24 posts of HC (Compounders) including these 6 compounders.

The main purpose of these compounders were to provide medical care to the Police personnel at LOP’s (i.e. East Island, Narcondum and Tillanchong) and their families.

Medicines used in these LOP’s as well as at Dispensary at Police Line, PTS Prothrapur and Poachers Camp are being supplied by the Health Dept. as per our requirement.

Sanctioned/Present Strength of compounders and their deployment is as under:

Sanctioned Strength: 24 HC (Compounders)

Present Strength: ASI (P) - 1, HC (Comp) - 15, WHC - 1, PC - 4 (Total - 21)

Police Dispensary, P/Line & PTS, Prothrapur function round the clock in three shifts. One compounder is also posted at Poachers Camp, Brookshabad. Pulse Polio Immunization and Filaria immunization is being conducted at this dispensary as per the programme of GB Pant Hospital every year.

A Doctor from GB Pant Hospital is visiting Police Dispensary every Saturday from 13/04/2013 onwards to provide treatment to police personnel and their families.
