The Police Training School, Prothrapur is the first training school for the A&N Police force in these Islands. Earlier the training school was established in the year 1992 at Police Line, Port Blair in the name of “Recruit Training Centre” and later it was upgraded & shifted to Prothrapur on 13.07.2010 and re-designated as Police Training School.
Police Training School, Prothrapur is situated at a distance of 10 km from Port Blair city adjacent to District Jail, Prothrapur. The picturesque campus of the Institute comprises of Training Block, Mess, Ladies & Gents Barrack, Drill Hall, Parking Sheds, Drill Hall, Gen Set Room, Outdoor Store & Armoury. The Training Block accommodates all the administrative offices like Administration, Account Section, Store, CLI Office, CDI Office, Dispensary, Gymnasium and Offices of the Principal & Vice-Principal.
The Police Training School, Prothrapur visualises to become a centre of excellence in police training & development and functions with a mission to develop police officers with the highest professional ability and integrity to serve the community better.
The Institute provides basic training to the newly appointed Police constables, Follower Constables, Drivers, and Home Guards. Also, it conducts refresher courses for the in-service Police personnel from time to time. Further, advanced training like Self Defence training to the girl students in various schools in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Weapon Handling & Annual Range Classification Firing, Advance Un-Armed Combat & Technique, Short/capsule courses/workshops, Training of Private Security Guards under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana (PMKVY) is also provided to the in-service Police personnel and Private Security Guard personnel.
